Itinerary - 2 weeks in Spain

Day 3 - Madrid Day of Art

Madrid - day of Art  (this will be shuffled around depending on group choice).

Head to the Prado. Shoot for a 9:30 entrance time.  We could arrange for the extra €5 and take the 10:00 tour, instead of wandering around for hours on our own thinking “Nice picture!”.  The tour guide will focus on the key pieces and masterpieces, telling you about the artist, the time period, why the piece is important, and features, details, and background that you would never pick out on your own (unless you are an art expert!). I would highly recommend this tour as it really highlighted what you were seeing and made it so much more interesting.
Next stop, lunch

Afternoon, we should spend at La Reina Sofia museum.  This Art Museum focuses on 20th century pieces.  Here you will see Miró, Dalí, Gris, Santos and Picasso.  Namely you will see Picasso's "Guérnica", the piece that propelled the US into World War 2.

Next is some photo-worthy visits.  We'll get some great photos for Instagram walking past Puerta de Alcala and then head to El Retiro Park. This park is beautiful and we could very much enjoy spending a couple hours there. After, we should head to the monument to Columbus, walking toward Las Letras for evening tapas.
